BCEC on Grey Street ©South Bank Corporation Brisbane has been named host city for the International Federation of Fertility Societies (IFFS) World Congress 2027, bringing close to 3,000 delegates to the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre from 18–21 April 2027. Held under the theme “Global Access and Advances in Fertility Care,” the congress will gather clinicians, researchers and policymakers to examine how technology and shifting social attitudes are reshaping fertility treatment, from AI-assisted embryo selection to 3D modelling techniques being used to better understand early human development.
Beyond the science, organisers say the event will centre on equity of access, addressing the cost, geographic and cultural barriers that still limit fertility care for many people worldwide, with Australia’s own model (clinical outcomes, government support, and access regardless of marital status or sexual orientation) positioned as a case study for the Asia-Pacific region. The successful bid was led by the Fertility Society of Australia and New Zealand (FSANZ) alongside IFFS, backed by BCEC, Tourism and Events Queensland, Brisbane Economic Development Agency and Tourism Australia, and is expected to generate around AUD 10.8 million in economic impact for the city.
“What we’ve been able to achieve here in terms of strong clinical outcomes, government support and a culture of inclusion shows what is possible when access to care is prioritised,” said Dr Petra Wale, President of FSANZ. “By bringing the global community together in Brisbane, we have an opportunity to learn from each other, break down barriers and ultimately bring more joy to more people hoping to build a family.”
